quaggy: Elizabeth looking back at Mr. Darcy (Bang Bang)
I was going to post my Harry Potter blatherings, but then I saw this meme over at [livejournal.com profile] zinke  and decided that that I so would rather do this instead.

Ask me a fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom, lj stuff, fic writing, etc. Questions can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

List 10 platonic male/female relationships in fiction that you enjoy.

1. They interact in canon, preferably in a significant (apply your own interpretation of such) way.
2. They are not related. They can, however, view each other as surrogate family.
3. Neither has confessed or implied romantic love for the other in canon.
4. They have not dated, been married, had sex, or made out in canon, on purpose, and of their own free will.
5. A popular fanon ship is ok (though preferably not your ship) but a canon pairing you wish were just friends is out.
6. Try to avoid using the same character or series twice.

I really couldn't resist this one. It was an excellent exercise for me, since I'm such an utter "best friend" shipper. If a male & female character have close friendship in canon, chances are that I'll be shipping them sooner or later, canon or not. I liked proving to myself that I actually can enjoy a male/female friendship without wishing there was more. As it turned out, all ten pairing were from television shows, though 3 of them you've probably never heard of. While some of these pairing on the list are (or at least could be) active ships, I just like their relationship as is.

I've seen this meme around plenty of places, most recently at [livejournal.com profile] unoriginal_liz and finally decided to give it a shot. It makes a nice change of pace from everything I've been working with over at [livejournal.com profile] keytus_tv.

Tell me a Fandom and I shall respond with my...

1. One True Pairing Ship:
2. Canon Ship:
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:

....and then YOU can tell me if my answer surprised you or not! ;-P

OH AWESOME!!! How cool is this?!!

I really needed something good after hearing about all that very scary stuff that literally hit too close to home yesterday.  I'll have to remember to post all three of my entries over here.

So apparently, [livejournal.com profile] flippet  has some "issues" about season 3, not to mention we haven't talked about season 1 or 2 yet!  So this is a space for us to do so.  Anyone on my f-list who knows and liked this show... or wants to know and like this show... should feel free to join us.  (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] seri_scribble  that means you!)

While I’ve tried to keep my thoughts in order, don’t expect me to come to any conclusions.  This is just stuff that have been on my mind…

quaggy: Elizabeth looking back at Mr. Darcy (Zuko)

As promised, here is a continuation of  Friday’s post.  Let’s get the Avatar stuff out of the way first, shall we?  I wrote down my reaction as I was watching the episoded.  So, this is sort of delayed livebloging.  Feel free to skip over if you never heard of the show…

Maybe it’s because I’ve been busy with real life.  Maybe it’s because school has been taking up all of my mental capacity.  But whatever the reason, I’m having trouble finishing fanfic. I have four up in the air right now, but I just can’t seem to finish a thing.  It’s not like I don’t know what to say.  It’s like I’ve even forgotten how.  I think my muse is asleep… or in a comma. And I still have a five page paper to finish by Wednesday and two books to read by next week.  Sigh.  Stupid real life.

I went to a National game last Tuesday.  I’m so not a sports fan (other than Sports Night, of course), but I’m really enjoy going to the game.  This was the second time I’ve ever gone.  And it’s the last time I will go at RFK stadium.  I’m glad I got a chance to go before the Nats move to the new stadium.

What made this game interesting, from a West Wing fan perspective, was that the Nationals were playing the Mets.  Now it is my own personal opinion that Josh would be delighted when baseball came back to DC and that he and Charlie would go to games together.  So when the Nationals and Mets play against each other would he be torn?  Or would he and Charlie trade insults?  Dammit.  There’s a fic idea in there somewhere, I know it!

Tim Gunn

Have you guys seen the new Tim Gunn/Martha Stewart commercial?  The Usher one was rather cute.  But Tim Gunn commercial was just divine.  Why can’t the show be more like that?!  He is just to adorable… which is strange to say about a grown man.  Oh well, I’m all about the Tim love.

Well... school, work, and the internship ALL seem to be getting in the way of me having much fun around these parts.  But here's a few thoughts I've had in the mean time...

Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style

Well, last week’s episode was SOOO much better than the premier.  Made me hopeful for the show actually.  The woman in question had a real reason for have fashion problem… she had lost a TON of weight.  (Slowly through diet and exercise.  Yeay her!!)  She had a new body and whole range of dress options and didn’t know what to do about either.  Tim (and silly, pointless Veronica) stressed that all decision would be made by the woman herself, something that they didn’t say either this week or next.  And guess what?  After one session with Tim Gunn, she pretty much nailed it!!  And the whole model runway walk coach was a FAR better idea than the life coach.  It was a really enjoyable half hour.  But this week?  What a disappointment!!  Even worse than the first episode.  This does not bode well.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

In just a few minutes, season three will start!!  I’m so excited!!!  (Despite the all the cannon pairings that I hate being pushed front and center.  Seriously, between this and Harry Potter a girl could be convinced to never ship again!)  Yes, it’s a cartoon.  Yes, it’s a kid show.  I don’t care!  I love it!  I wrote fanfic for it!!

Ooooh!  It’s on!  Gotta go!  I'll talk about the baseball game and fanfic latter.

Notes:  The finale for Season 2 made me grumpy.  I don't understand what made Zuko do what he did.  I really feel cheated out of what had been until this point a wonderfully detailed redemption storyline.  So I wrote this to make me feel better.  (There's a chance that something like the idea of Zuko as a double agent might actually turn out to be cannon, but I can't get my hopes up!)  I didn't intend to make it shippy... but shippy it is!

And for those of you who are wondering what the hell happened to the West Wing fic, don't worry.  I'll soon be returning you to your regularly scheduled programing!

Notes:  This was sort of a speculation fic I started right around the begining of season 2.  It still works within the cannon in a lot of ways, except there's no Toph because she hadn't been introduced yet.  I didn't feel like reworking it to shoehorn her in, so you can either pretend that she's been traveling with Uncle Iroh or that she doesn't exist at all.  (That is, if you even know what I'm talking about here!)

Notes:  Umm... Yeah.  This isn't a West Wing fic.  All I can say is that I had to wait TWO weeks for the season finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender.  (Yes, I know that I'm too old for this show.  Yes, I am well aware it's on Nickelodeon.  What can I say?  I'm hooked.)  After some serious cliffhangers and a really interesting promo, I couldn't help but speculate... and apparently my speculations now take form as fic.   If you'd like to find out more about the show, Wikipedia can fill you in.  And if you're REALLY interested, there are clips and full episodes (all out of order) over here... somewhere.  I'm pretty positive this will all be disproven tomorrow night, but I sure had fun writing it!  A very special thanks to [info]edgeriffic for the speedy beta when I decided to post this at the last minute.
