This was the last thing I ever wrote on my LJ:

 

Eleven years ago today, I started this LJ. Today, I'm ending it. You guys all know why. You can still find me on AO3, FF.Net, Tumblr and now on DreamWith too. I hope to see you on at least one of those platforms.

I'm going to leave this LJ up for a few months or so and then I'm going to delete and purge. So, update your bookmarks accordingly.

Goodbye, my LJ. Thank you so much for all the fond memories. You were a happy place to call home.

But, more seriously, I kinda know what you mean. I love canon Snape as a character - he's a dick and I really like that. But when it comes to fanon Snape, I'm quite particular. I like it when he retains his dickishness, rather than simply becoming this misunderstood, byronic-hero character. Or AU fics when the war is long over and everyone is grown up (both physically and emotionally), since he is kind of emotionally stunted...

Eh, different strokes and all that. =)

I love canon Snape as a character - he's a dick and I really like that.

I see that, I honestly do. And when he was played by Alan Rickman, he did have his moments. But generally I like my characters as Josh Lyman-levels of jerkiness. And there's the problem of him being a jerk to 11 year olds and I'm not going to even get started on the whole James & Lilly thing!

That said, a guy who acted like Snape did to adults, but was gruffly supported to kids? That would be my catnip. On the other hand, I think I just described McGonagall, who is my absolute favorite character, so there you go.

That's fair. I mean, I'm less fond of the whole Snape/Lily storyline, as I think its a bit weird to pine after someone like that (who you didn't even date!) for almost 20 years - and hate their son because of it.

But I do love a good old git. Especially a tall, dark and broody one. Hehe.

I do love McGonigall, though. I read an utterly excellent McGonigal/Grubblyplank (I love me a good rare-pair) recently. It was the most beautiful thing I think I've ever read. So perfect and heartbreaking and lovely all at the same time.

Found it! It's called Wilhelmina, A Love Story by lash_larue. And it is AMAZING!

Oooh! Thank you! I will check it out! Interesting that it's Grubbly-Plank, because I always liked the McGonagall/Hagrid connection. She was sweetly protective of him.

I find that rare-pairs often have the best fic. What you lack in quantity is made up for in quality.

Yeah, I don't really find that romantic or even all the sympathetic. Just because you love someone, doesn't mean that they have to love you back. (And I say this as I'm finishing a ficlet about Buffy and Dawn talking about unrequited love.)

I'd never thought of Minerva/Hagrid. I'm not entirely sure I'm all that up for Hagrid fic. lol. Might give it a try, though. You never know, could change my mind!

And yup. Not romantic at all. Just a bit creepy and pathetic. *sigh*

I mean, nothing wrong with unrequited love, but holding onto it for 20odd years and havig it dramatically influence every action you take, without there actually being anything really there in the first place, is a bit much.

Yeah, me neither! But friendship-wise, I'm all for it and, as a pairing, I'd be open to it, but I'd really really have to trust the author ;-) Besides, Hagrid is ridiculously hard to write in a way that doesn't come off as a bad parody.

Oh my god! I just finished the fic! It was amazing! Thank you so much for recommending it! And I really like the idea that McGonagall was just quietly living her life with her Hogwarts sweetheart and the way that it nicely slots into canon.

It's so good, isn't it?

I just love everything about it. It's so understated and beautiful and fluffy (without being sickly overkill). And I could completely kind of buy this being canon, which is something I really enjoy in non-canon fic.

I really ought to take a look at her other fic. =)
