Dateline JK Rowling Interview Liveblog
BEWARE OF POTENTIAL SPOILERS!!!!!
Merdith Viera interviews JK Rowling at Edinburgh Castle on Dateline NBC tonight at 7PM.
These are my thoughts... and hopefully any major insights JK is ready to tell us.
7:02 Here we go!
7:05 Who the hell skips to last page? Hee! JK thinks she should have printed the last chapter seperately!
7:06 First Spoiler Alert!
She proud that the books give a sense of "genuine mortality" to the books and that anyone could die.
7:08 Instead of Mr Weasley dying in book 5, Tonks and Lupin died to echo Harry's loss of parents.
Sigh. I can understand that. But DAMN!!!!
7:15 She lived with these books for 17 years. No wonder she went through mourning.
7:17 Her mom died six months after she first started maping out Harry Potter. "I think for that moment on death became the central theme of the seven books." Not in the killing, but in how people react to it.
7:22 I didn't realize her Mom died of MS. I should have known that.
7:26 Now we're talking about the movies.
7:27 She didn't want there to be movie sequels based on stories she didn't write.
7:30 Daniel Radcliffe: "She will give you advice if you ask for it, but she's good about keeping things seperate. The books is one thing and the movies are another." That's probably a very healthy way to view the movies.
7:31 She told the Trio certain spoilers about their characters, but not what happens in the end.
Heh! Daniel wanted to know whether or not Harry dies. JK whispered "you get a death scene."
7:32 About the new Harry Potter theme park:
MV: "I don't think you'll have to stand in line."
JK: "I better NOT!"
She's planning on taking her kids! :-)
7:33 She says whenever she needs a Harry Potter fix, she'll just visit the movie set.
7:39 "There are a lot of people who claim to be Harry, but interestingly enough no one claims to be Hermione."
7:40 Spoiler Alert
From very early on she wanted Hagrid to carry Harry out of the forest which is why he survived.
7:41 Her sister told her that if she killed Hargid she (her sister) would never forgive her.
Dumbledore's weakness is power. So he chooses to stay at Hogwarts. These books really are all about the choices we make versus what is preordained. "It's my nature" is cleaerly no excuse
7:42 Harry forgives Snape even knowing that Snape loathed him without justification until the day he died.
7:44 It is a political metaphor, but not suppose to deliberately
745: Spoiler Alert... but they announced this before
Harry and Ron "revolutionize" the Auror department. 19 years later, Harry is probably the head of the department. Hermione is very high up in Magical Law Enforcement. They changed the Ministry of Magic.
7:49 She wanted to show with the Epilogue that life goes on.
"To hear that Teddy Lupin is ok and has a good relaionship with Harry... I had killed his parents and I wanted to show he would be okay."
7:50 "I always knew it would be Fred." Fred was the insitigator and somewhat the harder one.
7:51 About the scene going back into the forest "It is about choices."
7:52 "If he [Voledmort] could have found it in himself to repent, he would have been okay."
7:54 Last Spoiler Alert
The last line was going to be something like "Only the ones that he loved, could see the lightening scar."
She changed it so that it could be over. That his scar is just a scar.
7:56 "All is well" and all is now over.
