A Little Help, Please?
Okay, I normally don't ask for help with fic on such a widespread basis, but I think the topic is broad enough that I'll get a range of answers. I'm curious about what everyone's answers would be.
Without getting into details about why I need the information, I'm having trouble figuring out who Donna would have on her iPod. I have a feeling hers would be a little different from mine. I think I can make a pretty good case for R.E.M. and I decided that even if she wasn't a Cranberries fan, she would have a soft spot for "Linger".
flippet and
tomfoolery815 both rightly pointed out that Donna was in all likelihood a U2 fan. (Her excitement to possibly meeting Bono was very similar to her excitement about seeing Yo-Yo Ma.) And I would bet money on her wearing out her copy of the Garden State soundtrack. But other than that, I'm stumped. I'd like to use a Matchbox Twenty song that wasn't released as a single and I don't know if she would be a big enough fan to buy the whole album.
So, I'm opening the floor for suggestions. What kind of music do you think Donna listens to? Specifically what kind during season 7 and beyond? I don't mind if its obscure, but it would be helpful to have some sort of sample, if you can find one. (YouTube is fine.)

First of all, I totally agree with Zinke's 80's play list idea. I'm thinking Immaculate Collection Madonna, Heart, maybe even a little Men at Work.
I also think that Donna's kind of a Rolling Stones fan. I bet she likes "Beast of Burden" and "Almost Hear You Sigh" but hates "Under My Thumb."
Maybe Van Morrison, but not as much as Amy, or maybe she did like VM but stopped after that conversation with Josh about Amy dancing around to it.
Fleetwood Mac--but more of the Christine McVie stuff ("You Make Loving Fun" etc) than the Stevie Nicks stuff.
The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen.
Certainly classical in addition to Yo Yo Ma. I'm thinking she still has a thing for the pieces should would have played on the flute in (I'm assuming) high school or college orchestra. Dvorak's 4th has some good flute parts. Maybe she likes Chopin's piano preludes, too, maybe?
And also, given the show's thing about trauma and music (Josh and his PTSD, but also Zoey and "Under Rug Swept" on continuous repeat), I think Donna must have music for her post-Gaza experience. Maybe not classical, because it would remind her of Josh and all the stuff she doesn't want to think about. Maybe the Indigo Girls? Mark Knopfler?
So there's my two cents!

I'm not sure about the Stones, just because I've sort of dubbed Josh a Beatles fan and would to work with something different for Donna.
Bruce is a very call (though I'm not sure I'll be able to work it in) and the Eagles made me think of Don Henley's "Boys of Summer", which I bet Donna loved. And that in turn made me realize that she was also a Tom Petty fan. Can't you see her singing along to "Free Falling" or "Last Dance With Mary Jane?"
And we know she likes The Mamas & The Papas, though it may be a little tainted for her now.

This is what comes to mind, for no particular reason:
Norah Jones
The Eagles
Tom Petty
Bruce Springsteen
Anna Nalick
Goo-Goo Dolls (or at least "Iris")
Alanis Morisette
Madonna
Celine Dion
I could see her being into showtunes, too.

"Bed of Lies", which I'm pretty sure is off their first album.
I think Donna is, or at least was, an avid radio listener, so you're right in that she would probably like songs from all of the above. (Well, maybe not Celine Dion. I just can't let her go there.) The question is which ones would she like enough to have purchased whether it be just a song or the whole album. But I'm beginning to see some similarity in everyone's answers, so that's helpful.
