More Drabbles
Back when I posted this meme,
pheobep and
unoriginal_liz gave me some great prompts. Even though I still have more prompts to go, these are the are the last of the 100 word drabbles I'm going to write. Apparently, my writing skills have failed me, because I just couldn't get the others to work. So, for the rest of your prompts, you guys are just going to have to deal with longer drabbles/ficlets instead. I know you're disappointed. :-)
Title: Hey, Jealousy
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Life With Derek
Prompts: "Derek/Casey - jealousy"
For:
pheobep
She was never jealous of the girls he dated. Not popular Kendra. Not perfect Sally. Not even Emily. Nope, she was always happy for him and would even help him out if she thought that he was really desperate. It's not like he was asking that she fall in love with him. Just a little jealousy so that he could pretend that maybe, just maybe she felt the same way that he did on days when things really looked hopeless. But no. It didn't bother her one bit when he was supposedly in love with someone else. It wasn't fair.
Title: The Fundamental Difference
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Doctor Who
Prompts: "Rose, Martha - unexpected"
For:
unoriginal_liz
Notes: Blame this on the fact that I'm still stuck back on Season/Series 3.
From the very beginning, he knew that Martha was fundamentally different from Rose. She would never be able to become an extension of himself the way that Rose had. Martha's inner strength was deeply rooted and it gave her the drive to always follow her own path. He liked that. He wouldn't have to worry about another painful parting with a companion who wasn't yet ready to let go. No, Martha would chose when to say good-bye and be able to walk away with her head held high.
What he didn't expect was how much it hurt when she did.
Title: Team Loyalty
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Sports Night
Prompts: "Jeremy and Dan have a conversation that is a little bit about sports, but mostly about Natalie"
For:
unoriginal_liz
Notes: For those of you who might not be familiar with the football career of Doug Flutie, go here.
"I'm just saying the guy should have more loyalty."
"Who? Flutie?"
"Yes."
"To the team that cut him?"
"I'm sure they're regretting it now."
"I'm sure they are too, but that doesn't change anything."
"But—"
"Jeremy, they treated him terribly. Oh, it started out well, I'll give you that, but who in their right mind would stick around after everything they put him through? And if there's a team that just... wants him...... He has every right to move on. And he doesn't need your permission to do it."
"Okay.......... Hey, Dan?"
"Yeah?"
"Just...... Be good to her?"
"Right."

You did an excellent job of capturing a little moment filled with emotion and reflection that tells a great deal about the characters.

It's a nice, gentle, subtle ship. I do wonder if Sorkin had thought to maybe go there, eventually, if the show had continued. I don't know about an OTP, though maybe, but even if not, I think it could have been a lovely interlude for them.

I think that's the kicker of the Doctor and Martha - he really didn't value her until it was too late (and I say that as a card carrying member of the 'Rooooose!' fanclub!). What I admire about Martha is exactly what you outline here - that she's sensible, and she values herself too highly to stay in a situation that isn't good for her.
And aw - Dasey! Derek wanting Casey to be jealous - I can so see this :)

Well, you were the one that gave me such a great prompt! ;-D

Yeah, I'm a little like the Doctor in that I didn't appreciate her in the beginning. But by the end, I had to give her credit for being strong enough to follow her own path.

Heh. Thanks. For some reason, I see Derek as the one that more aware of his feelings and therefore the one that suffers more. Poor boy. (Though he does kind of deserve it!)

Yeah, Flutie was someone who seemed to have a better career the older that he got. He seems to be the sort of player that the crew from Sports Night would all be talking about.
