Ship Meme
I've seen this meme around plenty of places, most recently at
unoriginal_liz and finally decided to give it a shot. It makes a nice change of pace from everything I've been working with over at
keytus_tv.

1. One True Pairing Ship:
Katara/Zuko. I normally go for the "best friends" ship, so I am really tickled that the only anomaly to that (and the only time I've ever shipped enemies) transformed into a partnership based on deep friendship and mutual respect. And I'm ALWAYS a sucker for that!
2. Canon Ship:
Sokka/Suki. They just kept getting cuter and cuter every time they were on screen together.
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
Kanna/Pakku, but it happened anyway. Mai/Zuko, but it happened anyway. Katara/Aang, but it happened anyway. And, truthfully, I have trouble seeing Aang with ANYONE without reaching for a spork, not just Katara.
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
Off the top of my head... Azula/Aang and/or Azula/Zuko
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
I honestly don't mind the idea of Iroh/Ursa.
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
How about ANYTHING cannon? (With the sole exception of Sokka/Suki.)
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
While Toph/Sokka gives me the creeps as surely as Katara/Aang, I sort of like the idea of Adult!Toph/Adult!Sokka. It's taken me a while to warm up to it.
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
Iroh/Kanna. Yeah... I don't really anything more to say about that.
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
Well, depending on who you talk to, any of the ships I've mentioned that I dislike, but the most innocuous is Toph/Aang. I don't object to it, I just don't really see it working.
Moving on... I took a peak at your answers for Harry Potter and I have a feeling you're not going to like mine...
Harry Potter
1. One True Pairing Ship:
I'll admit I'm a Harry/Hermione shipper, they are a classic example of my favorite kind of ship... but the fandom (both pro- and anti-) sure make it hard! Also, Ron/Luna, to a slightly lesser extent.
2. Canon Ship:
James/Lily, even though Rowling never bothered to spend time developing it and Tonk/Lupin, whose pairing surprised thw hell out of me, but delighted me to no end. (I had honestly thought during Book 5 that the two of them might actually be cute together, but figured that Rowling wasn't heading there because of their age difference.) That said, Book 7 was a MASSIVE disappointment in terms of that pairings characterization, in addition to be ridiculously heartbreaking.
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
Sigh... both Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny, but I knew it was coming whether I wanted it to or not.
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
There are WAY too many to choose from. I don't even know where to start.
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
Harry/Luna. I could have probably dealt with Ron/Hermione a little easier if I had Harry/Luna to distract me.
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
Harry/Ginny. Relationships based on hero-worship squiggs me out almost as much as relationships with maternal (or paternal) overtones mixed in.
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
Hermione/Fred or Hermione/George. Why that works for me and Ron/Hermione doesn't, I'll never know.
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
Well, I once wrote a Draco/Myrtle crack!fic that worked surprisingly well.
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
Almost every cannon ship.

To be more specific, if Harry/Hermione had been done and done WELL, I wouldn't have minded it, but I'm personally a little tired of hero/leading lady ships. That's really the only reason I don't go for it.
And I like the idea of Harry/Ginny, but I just didn't like the way Jo did it. You were right--it came off as hero-worship. I feel like she should have done it better justice. And I like Harry/Luna, too. I would have really liked that if it'd happened. ^.^
And I see what you're saying about Toph/Aang. Unless Aang REALLY grew up and stopped being so selfish, Toph's too good for him. I like older!Toph/Sokka, too. It'd be cute if they got together years down the road as adults.
And why anyone does pedo/incest/other sorts of creepy ships like Zuko/Azula, Fred/George, or Snape/Hermione, I will NEVER understand. O.o

Word. I actually figured as much, but still it was a little disconcerting. We probably couldn't have had more opposite answers even if we tried!

Sigh. There's a LOT of things she didn't do justice. My poor Tonks is one of them. I'm sure if it had been handled differently, I wouldn't have minded nearly as much. But the hero-worship/waiting-for-your-crush-to-notice-you thing is totally a pet peeve. As Rowling wrote it, Harry/Luna made so much more sense and would have been far sweeter.
Unless Aang REALLY grew up and stopped being so selfish, Toph's too good for him.
You know, I have trouble imagining what kind of adult Aang would be. All the others, even the side characters, it's easy to imagine who they grow up to be. But Aang seemed to be getting younger as the series went on. I just can't see him being the sort of solid person that Toph could depend on. Sokka, on the other hand, could be exactly the kind of guy that would compliment her.
The only relationship I can really imagine for Aang would be with someone quiet and meek. Someone that's younger who's (dare I say it?) nursing a case of hero-worship!

I should seriously dabble more in Harry/Luna. Luna understands him so well it isn't even funny. Why the HELL haven't I ever written any Harry/Luna? *mentally smacks self* I guess what I'm also getting at is I like FANON Harry/Ginny but not CANON Harry/Ginny. With better execution (and I honestly think poor Jo was running out of time to develop it, since she only had two books left at the time :-/), it could have been done really well. Or if she hadn't thought I WROTE THE EPILOGUE FIRST, SO EVERYTHING LEADING UP THAT *WILL* SUPPORT MY ENDGAME SHIP. You can't do that because you're not letting your story write itself. It's like your trying to control it too much instead of letting it take you where it wants to go. *coughBRYKEcough*
I can totally see adult!Toph/Sokka. They'd be really awesome together. Aang isn't man enough for Katara and CERTAINLY not man enough for Toph.

That's probably the heart of my problem. I can imagine Aang as an adult, because he's never really going to change.
I think pretty much any woman he'd end up with would be some spineless, subservient weakling.
And don't forget passive/aggressive. Especially whenever Katara was around. Or Toph. Or any female for that matter.
I guess what I'm also getting at is I like FANON Harry/Ginny but not CANON Harry/Ginny.
See, I had so little patience with canon Harry/Ginny, that I could never be bothered to check out if and how the fanon was different.
You can't do that because you're not letting your story write itself. It's like your trying to control it too much instead of letting it take you where it wants to go
I understand her reasons for WRITING the epilogue. But then she should have put it away and basically forgot about it from a writing standpoint. When she finally got to Book 7, she should have taken it out and decided if it still worked or not. And when she saw that it didn't (because it really couldn't work) she should have posted it on her website as an extra for her diehard fans.

I like your idea about the epilogue for Harry Potter! I wanted the epilogue to be about what happened to everyone after the war. Like what jobs they had, etc. Publishing it as an extra would have worked for me because having it at the end of the book really didn't do anything for me.

Well, actually I meant his future spouse (mostly because that would probably be the only defense mechanism available to her), but you're right. Aang is EXTREMELY passive-aggressive.
They just forgave him like that.
Which is yet another good reason why children should raise other children. They are still learning life's important lessons and so are unable to convey the important ones. Sokka and Katara had grown up a lot by the time Toph joined them, so they did better with the raising of their second kid. ;-P

Yeah, I actually think it detracted from the book (and the series) as a whole. It read a little like fanfic rather than an organic part of the story. The last 3 or 4 books really needed a good editor, but by that time, Rowling had grown so big that there was pressure to include EVERYTHING!!!
