I've seen this meme around plenty of places, most recently at

1. One True Pairing Ship:
Katara/Zuko. I normally go for the "best friends" ship, so I am really tickled that the only anomaly to that (and the only time I've ever shipped enemies) transformed into a partnership based on deep friendship and mutual respect. And I'm ALWAYS a sucker for that!
2. Canon Ship:
Sokka/Suki. They just kept getting cuter and cuter every time they were on screen together.
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
Kanna/Pakku, but it happened anyway. Mai/Zuko, but it happened anyway. Katara/Aang, but it happened anyway. And, truthfully, I have trouble seeing Aang with ANYONE without reaching for a spork, not just Katara.
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
Off the top of my head... Azula/Aang and/or Azula/Zuko
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
I honestly don't mind the idea of Iroh/Ursa.
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
How about ANYTHING cannon? (With the sole exception of Sokka/Suki.)
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
While Toph/Sokka gives me the creeps as surely as Katara/Aang, I sort of like the idea of Adult!Toph/Adult!Sokka. It's taken me a while to warm up to it.
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
Iroh/Kanna. Yeah... I don't really anything more to say about that.
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
Well, depending on who you talk to, any of the ships I've mentioned that I dislike, but the most innocuous is Toph/Aang. I don't object to it, I just don't really see it working.
Moving on... I took a peak at your answers for Harry Potter and I have a feeling you're not going to like mine...
Harry Potter
1. One True Pairing Ship:
I'll admit I'm a Harry/Hermione shipper, they are a classic example of my favorite kind of ship... but the fandom (both pro- and anti-) sure make it hard! Also, Ron/Luna, to a slightly lesser extent.
2. Canon Ship:
James/Lily, even though Rowling never bothered to spend time developing it and Tonk/Lupin, whose pairing surprised thw hell out of me, but delighted me to no end. (I had honestly thought during Book 5 that the two of them might actually be cute together, but figured that Rowling wasn't heading there because of their age difference.) That said, Book 7 was a MASSIVE disappointment in terms of that pairings characterization, in addition to be ridiculously heartbreaking.
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
Sigh... both Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny, but I knew it was coming whether I wanted it to or not.
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
There are WAY too many to choose from. I don't even know where to start.
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
Harry/Luna. I could have probably dealt with Ron/Hermione a little easier if I had Harry/Luna to distract me.
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
Harry/Ginny. Relationships based on hero-worship squiggs me out almost as much as relationships with maternal (or paternal) overtones mixed in.
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
Hermione/Fred or Hermione/George. Why that works for me and Ron/Hermione doesn't, I'll never know.
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
Well, I once wrote a Draco/Myrtle crack!fic that worked surprisingly well.
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
Almost every cannon ship.

To be more specific, if Harry/Hermione had been done and done WELL, I wouldn't have minded it, but I'm personally a little tired of hero/leading lady ships. That's really the only reason I don't go for it.
And I like the idea of Harry/Ginny, but I just didn't like the way Jo did it. You were right--it came off as hero-worship. I feel like she should have done it better justice. And I like Harry/Luna, too. I would have really liked that if it'd happened. ^.^
And I see what you're saying about Toph/Aang. Unless Aang REALLY grew up and stopped being so selfish, Toph's too good for him. I like older!Toph/Sokka, too. It'd be cute if they got together years down the road as adults.
And why anyone does pedo/incest/other sorts of creepy ships like Zuko/Azula, Fred/George, or Snape/Hermione, I will NEVER understand. O.o

Word. I actually figured as much, but still it was a little disconcerting. We probably couldn't have had more opposite answers even if we tried!
And I like the idea of Harry/Ginny, but I just didn't like the way Jo did it. You were right--it came off as hero-worship. I feel like she should have done it better justice.
Sigh. There's a LOT of things she didn't do justice. My poor Tonks is one of them. I'm sure if it had been handled differently, I wouldn't have minded nearly as much. But the hero-worship/waiting-for-your-crush-to-notice-you thing is totally a pet peeve. As Rowling wrote it, Harry/Luna made so much more sense and would have been far sweeter.
Unless Aang REALLY grew up and stopped being so selfish, Toph's too good for him.
You know, I have trouble imagining what kind of adult Aang would be. All the others, even the side characters, it's easy to imagine who they grow up to be. But Aang seemed to be getting younger as the series went on. I just can't see him being the sort of solid person that Toph could depend on. Sokka, on the other hand, could be exactly the kind of guy that would compliment her.
The only relationship I can really imagine for Aang would be with someone quiet and meek. Someone that's younger who's (dare I say it?) nursing a case of hero-worship!

I should seriously dabble more in Harry/Luna. Luna understands him so well it isn't even funny. Why the HELL haven't I ever written any Harry/Luna? *mentally smacks self* I guess what I'm also getting at is I like FANON Harry/Ginny but not CANON Harry/Ginny. With better execution (and I honestly think poor Jo was running out of time to develop it, since she only had two books left at the time :-/), it could have been done really well. Or if she hadn't thought I WROTE THE EPILOGUE FIRST, SO EVERYTHING LEADING UP THAT *WILL* SUPPORT MY ENDGAME SHIP. You can't do that because you're not letting your story write itself. It's like your trying to control it too much instead of letting it take you where it wants to go. *coughBRYKEcough*
I can totally see adult!Toph/Sokka. They'd be really awesome together. Aang isn't man enough for Katara and CERTAINLY not man enough for Toph.
no subject
That's probably the heart of my problem. I can imagine Aang as an adult, because he's never really going to change.
I think pretty much any woman he'd end up with would be some spineless, subservient weakling.
And don't forget passive/aggressive. Especially whenever Katara was around. Or Toph. Or any female for that matter.
I guess what I'm also getting at is I like FANON Harry/Ginny but not CANON Harry/Ginny.
See, I had so little patience with canon Harry/Ginny, that I could never be bothered to check out if and how the fanon was different.
You can't do that because you're not letting your story write itself. It's like your trying to control it too much instead of letting it take you where it wants to go
I understand her reasons for WRITING the epilogue. But then she should have put it away and basically forgot about it from a writing standpoint. When she finally got to Book 7, she should have taken it out and decided if it still worked or not. And when she saw that it didn't (because it really couldn't work) she should have posted it on her website as an extra for her diehard fans.
no subject
I like your idea about the epilogue for Harry Potter! I wanted the epilogue to be about what happened to everyone after the war. Like what jobs they had, etc. Publishing it as an extra would have worked for me because having it at the end of the book really didn't do anything for me.
no subject
Well, actually I meant his future spouse (mostly because that would probably be the only defense mechanism available to her), but you're right. Aang is EXTREMELY passive-aggressive.
They just forgave him like that.
Which is yet another good reason why children should raise other children. They are still learning life's important lessons and so are unable to convey the important ones. Sokka and Katara had grown up a lot by the time Toph joined them, so they did better with the raising of their second kid. ;-P
Publishing it as an extra would have worked for me because having it at the end of the book really didn't do anything for me.
Yeah, I actually think it detracted from the book (and the series) as a whole. It read a little like fanfic rather than an organic part of the story. The last 3 or 4 books really needed a good editor, but by that time, Rowling had grown so big that there was pressure to include EVERYTHING!!!

LWD
1. One True Pairing Ship:
Casey/Derek. I think it might be why the fandom even exists!
2. Canon Ship:
Okay, are we absolutely sure that Casey/Derek ISN'T canon? Because I saw "March Break" and those two couldn't even stick to the high-speed "We have to put everything back in order before the family gets back" thing without one of them tackling the other. No? Alright, then I guess Nora/George.
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
Emily/Derek. It's the same problem for me as Ginny/Harry from Harry Potter. I hate relationships based on hero-worship because (1) it doesn't work like that in real life and (2) stalker, much? And when it actually happened, it was like one giant step back for Emily.
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
Derek/Lizzie or Casey/Edwin. And I once saw a Casey/Paul fic *shudders*
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
Maybe Emily/Ralph. She had a line in Tuesday Night Fever that made me think they would be cute.
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
Casey/Truman... or really Truman with just about anybody. The guy is just bad news.
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
I haven't seen enough Sheldon episodes to truly be on the Emily/Sheldon ship, but I'll take eveyone's word that it's cute.
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
You know THIS is the category that Casey/Derek should have fallen under if TPTB were doing there jobs. ;-) Since that's not the case, I'm going to go with the whole "Sam is gay" thing, which works in fic more often than it doesn't.
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
Lizzie/Edwin. When one set of step-siblings fall in love, it's weird, but that's life. When two sets fall in love, then you start checking the water supply and place a call to Jerry Springer. Plus, Lizzie/Edwin don't have the same circumstances that Casey/Derek do. They met far younger and their relationship DOES seem more sibling-like. It's hard for me to imagine that they've been nursing a secret attraction all this time.
no subject
But creepiest of all is George/Casey (vomits in mouth) -- Seatergirl has ruined both George and John Ralston for me! (nothing against her -- she's a good writer)
Oh there is that hinted at Sam/Nora story too. I felt oddly drawn to that one -- by that same part of me that secretly wants to see the eviscerated corpse at the scene of an accident.
I think Emily/Ralph is sooooo much cuter than Emily/Sheldon. I totally do not see the appeal of Sheldon. Seriously? He isn't cute. He's obnoxious. He dresses terrible. And, that song he wrote was just pathetic. Not appealing at all! I just don't get it!!???!!
And Lizzie/Edwin ...I know! I think they are a weird match too! You can't have all the siblings couple up!
:)
no subject
Oh, ewwewwewwewwewwewwewwewwewwwewwwewwewwewwewwewwweww! EW!! That's in the "Please Pass The Brain Bleach" category. Don't know how I missed those fic, but I'm very glad I did!
He's obnoxious. He dresses terrible. And, that song he wrote was just pathetic. Not appealing at all! I just don't get it!!???!!
Well, for somebody who's as popularity obsessed as Emily, Sheldon might be exactly who she needs. To bad whatever lesson she learned from dating him, she promptly forgot when the moment she had a chance with Derek. Ick.
You can't have all the siblings couple up!
I really don't know why more fic writers don't realize this. It seem like most hook Lizzie & Edwin up as soon as they're done with Casey & Derek. Sometimes they even change their personalities so that the two are more Casey&Derek-like.
Now, granted, the show lead to the set up in the finale that Edwin was stepping into Derek's and Lizzie into Casey's... but even that's more of a "See, this is how the senario would have played out if Derek & Casey DID think of each other as siblings" scenario than a case of history repeating itself. :-P

Sports Night
1. One True Pairing Ship:
This is hard, because Sorkin managed to ruin most of my ships for me by season 2. (Break up more than once and I lose patience. And the only thing dumber than the dating plan is that it turned out to be a good idea.) Lately, though, I've been liking the idea of post-series Dan/Natalie, to the point that it's now my OTP.
2. Canon Ship:
Again, this is hard because Sorkin ruined all the canon pairings. Well, every single one except Dana/Sam. They were very sweet and, even though there wasn't a happily ever after, Sam, who simply adored Dana without reservation, was exactly who she needed to be with, even if it was only for a short time. I don't think anyone on the show loved Dana as unconditionally as Sam... not even Casey.
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
Dan/Rebecca redux. Casey/Dana post-dating plan. Jeremy/Natalie after the second or third break-up.
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
Isaac with anyone other than his wife. Sally/Dan.
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
Dana/Calvin Trager, from the finale. Of course, he turned out to be the owner of the station and therefore her boss and that's a complication, but, all in all, there was a lot of promise there.
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
Ugh. Dan/Rebecca redux. Casey/Dana post-dating plan. Jeremy/Natalie after the second or third break-up. That's how Sorkin ruined my ships!
Also Dana/Gordon and Sally/anyone
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
Dan/Dana, in addition to having adorably similar names, could actually work as a couple. However, due to Dana's history with Casey, it would never happen. But the idea that a post-series Casey THINKS that there's something going on is ripe with potential!
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
Dan/C.J. from West Wing or any Sports Night/West Wing pairing. :-)
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
Sigh. Dan/Casey. It's just not my thing. I'm never really one for slash and I just like the friendship between the two of them without the romantic angle.
Firefly
(Full disclosure: I missed a few episodes and so I haven't yet seen the movie. Or read much fic, for that matter.)
1. One True Pairing Ship:
Kaylee/Simon and Zoe/Wash (who says married couples aren't interesting?)
2. Canon Ship:
Zoe/Wash and Kaylee/Simon
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
Mal/Zoe, because, even without Wash, the idea is just wrong. Mal/Inara because they just don't do it for me. See #9
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
Simon/River. River/Anyone really, but the idea that Simon's devotion to his sister is in any way creepy or incestuous is both insulting and sick.
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
Mal/Kaylee, not in a canon-way, but it's fun watching them interact.
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
River/Jayne. I don't even understand that ship.
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
Kaylee/Jayne. It's hard not to see the possibilities in the Pilot when Jayne is curled up outside the infirmary during Kaylee's operation, but ultimately, I think Simon is the better match for our bundle of sunshine.
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
Mal/Kaylee, but like I said, it's still fun.
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:
Mal/Inara. It's not the actors or the writing, but somehow, I just can't seem to get into the pairing. Their bickering hit the right notes for me and their different views on her profession seems to be a pretty insurmountable obstacle. And even if they could get past it, I really don't see them living happily ever after.

Sigh. Dan/Casey. It's just not my thing. I'm never really one for slash and I just like the friendship between the two of them without the romantic angle.
It's funny - I think if I'd seen the show first, I'd have 'friendshipped' Dan and Casey, but I tracked the show down because I got into it fic-first (and also because I remembered Robert Guillaume from My Irish Childhood of Reruns of Benson), and the only fics I could find - and VERY IMPORTANTLY, the only EPIC fics I could find - were Dan/Casey. I still remember biting my nails and waiting impatiently for updates on Not Homophobic and Like Sailing and Home Runs. I'm sure Aaron Sorkin would be enormously disgruntled to find how fandom influenced my view of his show! Think he'd lecture me in episode form? :P
Then I watched the show and was surprised by how much I liked Casey/Dana (until the stupid dating plan). And then I wanted Dan/Natalie fic and Casey/Dana fic, but I couldn't find either of these things!

THIS I can totally agree with, though :) They always seem to me like the kind of couple that are destined to...be apart. Like their story is about the attempt to be together, rather than actually being together.

I'd be a lot happier if there was some nice long Dan/Natalie fic to recommend! The best I got is
I'm sure Aaron Sorkin would be enormously disgruntled to find how fandom influenced my view of his show!
I don't know about that. I think he likes messing with slash!fans a little. Why else for Studio 60, would they release teasers picks of Matt and Danny rolling around on the beach? :-P
They always seem to me like the kind of couple that are destined to...be apart. Like their story is about the attempt to be together, rather than actually being together.
Good call! That is exactly what's going on! And it's very Wheadon-esque. He (like Sorkin, actually) isn't someone who really believes in happily ever after... or even "happily ever after 'cause we work at it".
no subject
I think the problem with SN is that all the fic is good, there's just not enough of it, and it's not long enough. Also, most of what I've found is Dan/Casey - which I like, but I'd also like a little moar diversity :) So thank you for the Dan/Natalie recs - they were lovely, and a really nice change :)
I think he likes messing with slash!fans a little. Why else for Studio 60, would they release teasers picks of Matt and Danny rolling around on the beach? :-P
...I am completely confused and thoroughly intrigued. Aaron Sorkin has gone up in my estimation :)
He (like Sorkin, actually) isn't someone who really believes in happily ever after... or even "happily ever after 'cause we work at it".
Yup. And mostly (with one or two digressions!) that's a bit too hopeless for me and it doesn't really appeal.
OH! ALSO - I AM POINTING THE FINGER OF BLAME MOST UTTERLY IN YOUR DIRECTION! BECAUSE -
1) I have dug out my Sports Night DVDs from my 'Yes it was good, but I don't think I'll watch it again,' pile and am pilot-rewatching this evening.
2) ...I am 2000 words into a Dereka Venturi/boy!Casey McDonald story.
These things are entirely your fault. *shakes fist*

Okay, when I read all this I actually started laughing and clapping my hands just like Danny is in my icon. *points* (I love it when my icons are so completely appropriate!)
In response I have to say:
1) YES!!! Happy viewing!!! And I'm utterly thrilled that you're posting over at
2) I can't tell you how excited the prospect of this fic makes me! I can't wait to read it!!
3) Well, it's YOUR fault I'm writing a real, not-drabble LWD fic, so right back at you! :-P

It's fun, making thinky thoughts about TV. Also, I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Sports Night, so it's nice to be reminded!
2) I can't tell you how excited the prospect of this fic makes me! I can't wait to read it!!
Ack - it is bad!fic - but SO FUN to write :) Moody rocker chick Dereka who really doesn't like that Casey is crushing on Sally, while Casey Just Doesn't Get It. Canon? Pssht - who needs THAT?
3) Well, it's YOUR fault I'm writing a real, not-drabble LWD fic, so right back at you! :-P
YAY! I don't have a clappy hand icon, but imagine one here :) Yay!

Watch out! I'll get you back into West Wing before you even know what's happening! :-P
Moody rocker chick Dereka who really doesn't like that Casey is crushing on Sally
Okay, I think my brain just exploded. Seriously, this sounds epic!! I don't want to apply pressure and tell you to write fast... but write lots, quickly! I can't wait!!!
