Date: 2009-10-09 08:03 pm (UTC)Sigh. Dan/Casey. It's just not my thing. I'm never really one for slash and I just like the friendship between the two of them without the romantic angle.
It's funny - I think if I'd seen the show first, I'd have 'friendshipped' Dan and Casey, but I tracked the show down because I got into it fic-first (and also because I remembered Robert Guillaume from My Irish Childhood of Reruns of Benson), and the only fics I could find - and VERY IMPORTANTLY, the only EPIC fics I could find - were Dan/Casey. I still remember biting my nails and waiting impatiently for updates on Not Homophobic and Like Sailing and Home Runs. I'm sure Aaron Sorkin would be enormously disgruntled to find how fandom influenced my view of his show! Think he'd lecture me in episode form? :P
Then I watched the show and was surprised by how much I liked Casey/Dana (until the stupid dating plan). And then I wanted Dan/Natalie fic and Casey/Dana fic, but I couldn't find either of these things!
Mal/Inara. It's not the actors or the writing, but somehow, I just can't seem to get into the pairing. Their bickering hit the right notes for me and their different views on her profession seems to be a pretty insurmountable obstacle. And even if they could get past it, I really don't see them living happily ever after.
THIS I can totally agree with, though :) They always seem to me like the kind of couple that are destined to...be apart. Like their story is about the attempt to be together, rather than actually being together.

I don't know about that. I think he likes messing with slash!fans a little. Why else for Studio 60, would they release teasers picks of Matt and Danny rolling around on the beach? :-P

Good call! That is exactly what's going on! And it's very Wheadon-esque. He (like Sorkin, actually) isn't someone who really believes in happily ever after... or even "happily ever after 'cause we work at it".

Also, most of what I've found is Dan/Casey - which I like, but I'd also like a little moar diversity :) So thank you for the Dan/Natalie recs - they were lovely, and a really nice change :)

Yup. And mostly (with one or two digressions!) that's a bit too hopeless for me and it doesn't really appeal.

1) I have dug out my Sports Night DVDs from my 'Yes it was good, but I don't think I'll watch it again,' pile and am pilot-rewatching this evening.
2) ...I am 2000 words into a Dereka Venturi/boy!Casey McDonald story.
