Notes: Remember Donna's line in The Short List? You know the one. "Because when it doesn't work out, you end up drunk in my apartment in the middle of the night and yell at my roommate's cats." Well, a while back I was going to write a drabble for tww100 when the promp was "Calvin and Hobbes" and my mind immediately went to that line, but I couldn't get the drabble down to 100 words, so I abandoned it and tww100 has seemed to have died (or, at least, gone into deep hibernation) since then. This weekend, I pulled it out again with the idea of turning it into a ficlet, but something wasn't quite right. Fortunately, amycurl came to my rescue and suggested that I change the POV. The result was twice as long and ten times better. Thank you so much, Amy!! I seriously couldn't have done it without you!!!

The current challenge (#181) is “Water.” Wasn’t that convenient! For those of you who care about things like this, the last drabble features Nora and Aaron. Ages ago, I wrote a silly little drabble about singing in the shower. Flip thought that Donna listening to Josh sing Yellow Submarine would make a good drabble and I promised to write it for her birthday. Flash forward many months later, and I’ve written her five. Which is only fair since I missed her birthday a while ago. Sorry, for the delay, Flip! Happy belated birthday!

Summary: AU set right before The Ticket.  The day before Donna's interview with Josh, she gets a very upseting phone call.
Note: As a lot of you might remember, I wrote What Happens In Hospitals about a year ago.  It seems to be my most popular fic… probably because it features drugged!Josh.  I still proud of it, but because it was one of my earliest fics, there were things about it that I just didn’t handle very well.  First, the whole open timeline thing was a dumb idea.  I always though of it as a Season 6/7 AU and really should have just written it as such.  Second, I didn’t deal with the more serious, melancholy side of the premise well at all.  Though I had tried to weave it through the entire fic, the somber side really didn’t come across until the very, very end and then it was more a discordant note than anything else.  But what can you do?  Just chalk it up to a learning experience and move on? 

Well, I recently realized that I could solve both problems with a prequel.  I realize that I’m messing with something that a lot of people like (not that I believe there’s a huge number of people reading my stuff to begin with, but still) and that can really be tricky.   I mean, look at the Star Wars prequels!!  But since I write mainly for my own enjoyment, I decided to be fearless and just go for it!  As always, a great big thank you to caz963 for proofing for me again.  I can't tell you how thankful I am you're my beta (even if I don't always listen!)  So, to show my love, I used "Hannah" like you wanted! :-)
