Monkey See, Monkey Do
So, christinekh did it first. And then
cantbesilent followed suit. So did
caz963. Who am I to snub such good company?
Keyboard or longhand?
Keyboard mostly. But I do write longhand when I am no where near a computer… or when I am hopelessly writer’s blocked. It can backfire though. My brother accidentally gathered up my notebook (that had two unfinished fics I hadn’t transferred over to my computer yet) with his stuff when I was home a couple weeks ago. I only JUST got it back!
Beta or no beta?
Beta. Or should I say,
caz963! I was really reluctant to have a beta. I just didn’t think these silly fics of mine were important enough to have someone proof them. Caz convinced me the value of having someone look over your work before you post. Now I even let her check my drabbles! (Of course, I didn't let her check this over, so you all are just going to have to deal with the typos and errors!)
Plot?
The most important part!!! You can’t write a good fic without a good concept!
Title?
The title can either be the most fun part of the fic… or the most frustrating! But I love them!
Smushy or smutty?
Smushy, definitely! I think it’s no secret that I’m a romantic. And considering the trouble I have bringing the “hot”, I don’t think I would be very good at smut.
Summary?
Generally, I don’t include a summary because I’m worried I’ll give away too much of the fic. I have been working on summaries for my fic lists, though.
Funniest fic?
Probably “Untold Plans” It was WAY too much fun to write and I think it shows. Sam freaked out for me beautifully!
Most popular fic?
Well I got the most feedback for “Expecting” and people still mention “What Happens in Hospitals”, so I guess that’s pretty popular too.
Best and worst?
”Expecting” is my best to date, I think. And I’m very proud of “Campaign Flings or the Complete Lack There Of” even though it was like my fourth fanfic ever!
As for the worst… None of my fics on a whole make me cringe (but ask me again in six months!) However, I don’t think that the Santos/Josh conversation at the end of “Uncertain Conversations” holds up as well as the Sam/Josh and Donna/Josh parts.
And though I’m still proud of “What Happens in Hospitals”, I really loused up the dismount. The last few lines weren’t nearly as strong as the rest of the piece. And I should have dropped the whole “chose your own time period” thing and made it a straight out Season 6 AU. Ah well, live and learn.
Coulda been contenders?
Does this mean fics that you have abandoned? Because, despite my countless unfinished fics and fic ideas, I’ve only abandoned one completely. It was actually a cute concept about Pivot’s Questions, but I was all over the place and didn’t really have plot other than the hook and a couple of good lines.
Strengths?
I think I can get inside the head of whichever character I’m focusing on whether it be someone familiar like Donna or someone alien like Amy.
Weaknesses?
I can’t proof read to save my life. My brain actually sees what should be there… not what actually is. (Thank god for Caz!) I also have a world of trouble trying to get things on paper. I’m so envious of people who can just write a book in one sitting. Every word is like slogging through mud. Except for those brilliant moments when everything just flows out. I live for those moments.
Dirty little secrets?
Ummm…. Well, I do have a couple of ideas for smutty fics. But since I could never do them justice, they’ll just have stay in my head. Besides, I’m a little wigged by the idea of posting porn!!

And you only have trouble getting things on paper because I keep distracting you..!

And, trust me, I would have trouble getting my thought on paper with or without you! It's always been a struggle for me. Most high school girls write angsty poetry about love. I wrote angsty poetry about not being able to find the right words!

This made me laugh. :D
And for the record, I was the girl who wrote snarky poetry about the girls who wrote angsty poems of love....
Your Keytus daughter is evil. Deal with it. :P

I also had a friend who thought she was the next Stephen King/Anne Rice and wrote peotry to match. Sigh.

Does that mean some of them were good? huh. learn something new every day!
See that just makes me proud of you!!
I love that you appreaciate my snarkiness!

And why on earth would you ever imagine I wouldn't appeaciate your snarkiness?

I didn't imagine that YOU wouldn't appreaciate it. But I have encountered people who don't. At all. (*cough* writers of bad poetry *cough*)
But I'm allowed to appreaciate you appreaciating my snarky tendancies, right?

And writers of bad poetry cannot appreciate snarky tendancies because no taste. If they did, they wouldn't write bad poetry!

I think plot and concepts are sort of different. At least to me. In my head plot means I have to think out a story - beginning, middle, end. Concepts are more of just the general idea or theme of the piece, rather than having something with a clear cut story. But I totally agree, you need something solid pulling the piece together, otherwise its just ramblings (like this?)
Love your fics, I demand more! :)

I love reading about the writting process too! I don't know if it's because I was an English major, or because I write. But I am so intrigued what other people think works or doesn't... and where their heads awere when they wrote the piece.

Actually, I totally agree with this. My Pivot's Questions fic fell apart because I didn't have a well thought out plot... but I used the word concept because that's what's needed for a good Post-Ep or Missing Scene fic. (You are borrowing the plot from cannon.)
