I'm hoping that a few of the communities I like will migrate over here. That way I can pretty much just use my DW account, instead of maintaining two. But I'm not sure if that will happen. =(
Hopefully your communities will migrate. Giles Shorts already did and Summer of Giles is in the process of doing so. I think that active communities are going to have to as most of their members jump ship.
I might go take a look at Giles Shorts. I didn't know it existed, but it sounds super fun and exciting! =D
I do hope that Summer of Giles moves over here. I think it already has a mirror here from previous years, though I don't think it's currently maintained. *shrugs*
Am SOOOOOOOO looking forward to SoG! I can't wait. *bounces*
Oh you definitely need to check out Giles Shorts! It's one of the reasons I wrote so many drabbles this past month! They regularly have challenges and prompts. And sometimes my drabbles grow a little too pic to be considered "short" ;-)
Not only did SoG move over, they transferred over all their past entries. It sounds like everything is a go!
Thank goodness, since I've been working on my SoG fics already. Alright one of them is the fic I teased last summer, but still. :-P
Ooooooo, if it's a drabbling community, then yes, I absolutely do! I LOVE drabbles. I swear aleast 50% of all my fandom output is GS100 drabbles. Lol. Do they do weekly challenges?
=D SO EXCITED!
SoG was my favourite thing of last year. There were so many excellent fics, and I just loved the atmosphere of it. It was a lovely place to join as a newbie to Buffy fandom. =)

Yes, they do! And generally there's a monthly theme. You just missed March Madness, which is when you take someone else's last line and make it your first. I had a blast! As you can probably see from my drabble output!
SoG was my favourite thing of last year. There were so many excellent fics, and I just loved the atmosphere of it. It was a lovely place to join as a newbie to Buffy fandom. =)
Me too! It was such a lovely welcoming place for newcomers. One of the nicest fandom expiriences I've had in a while. (And I've been part of some really excellent fandoms!)
Okay. I absolutely have to check out Giles Shorts. But only after I've finished the first two fics on my to-do list. Otherwise I'll get distracted and not finish either of them.
*resolve face*
Snap! And SoG was one of the nicest welcomes I've had to a fandom. I've got a good idea for a fic for this year - it's another comic-compliant one (I love the idea of Giles having to be a teen again. Sue me. =p). I'm just hoping the idea translates well onto paper, so to speak =S
But only after I've finished the first two fics on my to-do list. Otherwise I'll get distracted and not finish either of them.
Oh my gosh, welcome to my life! I keep not finishing stuff because I keep getting distracted!
I've got a good idea for a fic for this year - it's another comic-compliant one
At this point, your fics are the only way I'll even acknowledge that the comics even exist and aren't just someone's really bad, really long fanfic. But that's because you take the Buffy/Giles synamic to interesting places that we already know the comics will ignore.
I love the idea of Giles having to be a teen again. Sue me. =p.
Oh gosh, if I can get it done, you are going to LOVE the third fic I have planned for SoG! I hope.
I swear my laptop is like a graveyard for half finished fics. Some of which go back 10 years... Oooops!
you take the Buffy/Giles synamic to interesting places
I think that's kind of why I like playing in comic-compliant universes, as opposed to only the TV canon-compliant ones. I kind of love playing with how the dynamic between the two of them might change (and how the pair of them might change themselves) after both experiencing death and resurrection - to varying degrees of success! I also kind of like exploring how Giles returning as a child (but with his 50-odd year old mind intact) and having to go through everything again might change him, and what decisions he might take.
In the comics, despite still being Giles, he has issues controlling the more immature side of himself - often ending up acting, unconsciously, like the child he now is. It makes me so curious as to how he will cope with being a teen/young adult again - especially considering how well it went last time (*snort*), and that he has quite the increase in magical power, in comparison to his previously adult self.
It's just ripe for fic.
That and the whole 'Buffy is kind of shallow and likes young-looking men' thing. Which is also fun to play with.
I'm currently writing (for angelus2hot) a fic set either around now or slightly in the future (I have to work out the years and corresponding ages), where Buffy and the gang are just approaching their 40s, with Giles almost hitting 30 (again), as I think it will present quite a nice set of challenges for the characters. That and it's a crime-thriller style thing (which is why it's kind of become this behemoth of a fic), so those sorts of ages work really well. lol.

Yes, that's what I love about it too! It puts them on equal footing. And it also gives them something in common that nobody else has really experienced.
That and the whole 'Buffy is kind of shallow and likes young-looking men' thing. Which is also fun to play with.
I was joking with LittleOtter that Buffy has two type: the charming lunkhead and the skinny bad boy with names ending in -ike. And that of course prompted a plot-bunny. They breed so fast!!
I agree. Buffy tends to like guys who look young, but are actually older and a little more mature than they look. (Not that Spike or Angel have the greatest relationship with maturity.) But then again, that's who she is too. She looks young, but has the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Oh my gosh! That's all sounds amazing!! I can't wait!!
And ooooo, that sounds like there might be a teen Giles...
Possibly ;-) Or someone that hits a lot of the same notes. No comics are involved though. Though a visit to Ripper and the Dark Ages might be ;-)
Yes. And I think, combined with the whole Watcher-Slayer thing (which is like bloody catnip for me when it comes to fic. Don't care if it's two Watchers or two Slayers, either. Nor am I pick about which Watcher and Slayer. lol), it can make for some really interesting settings and concepts.
I was joking with LittleOtter that Buffy has two type: the charming lunkhead and the skinny bad boy with names ending in -ike.
Hehe, TRUTH!
And I think you're right on the whole mature yet young looking thing - which Giles fits quite well post-resurrection (EDIT: well, once he's grown up a bit. Otherwise that would be super weird. lol). I mean, I know it's really not everyone's cup of tea, but I think that sort of scenario would be quite a bit less 'WTF?' for most.
That said, most of the pairings I like aren't even close to canon, so I can't say I'm overly bothered by that sort of thing. I'm a non-canon kinda girl. Can't help it. lol.
=D I'm just hoping angelus2hot likes it. I don't know them all that well, so I'm mostly working from what I can gather they like (in terms of characterisation) from their own fics and their favourited ones. Fingers crossed it won't go down like a lead balloon!

Yes, there really is something about the Watcher/Slayer thing isn't there? I'm more of an OTP shipper, but even platoniclly the Watcher/Slayer bond is a fascinating one to explore. I suppose you could say that Buffy & Giles's Watcher/Slayer bond was so strong, if actually started effecting my enjoyment of my old OTP. (There's actually a story there, but I think maybe I should make that it's own separate post, rather than squeezing it in here.)
And I think you're right on the whole mature yet young looking thing - which Giles fits quite well post-resurrection (EDIT: well, once he's grown up a bit. Otherwise that would be super weird. lol).
I had this plot bunny where comic book teenage Giles suddenly has to deal with a 14 year old Buffy. They have to go to school together and they soon start acting like a Junior High version of Ftiz/Simmons. And together they fight crime :-)
I kind of wish they'd done more about the whole Watcher/Slayer thing in canon. So many questions, so few answers. It would have given the show a really interesting dimension. How do the Watchers Council decide who is going to watch who? How do they predict who is going to be a Slayer? Does Watching run in families because it's a hereditary genetic sort of thing? Or is it more 'this is the family buisness' sort of thing?
SO MANY QUESTIONS
I had this plot bunny where comic book teenage Giles suddenly has to deal with a 14 year old Buffy.
I would read the hell out of that. Sounds like it could be completely hilarious!
I kind of wish they'd done more about the whole Watcher/Slayer thing in canon. So many questions, so few answers.
Me too. Though much I think was thanks to the format. TV really doesn't care about mystical theory and delving into relationships that don't involve UST, since as a medium it's more plot focused and getting everyone to tune in next week. The nice thing is that we can explore this in fanfic, without being constricted by things that the show might have done for the sake of plot.

I think so too. Though for me to write it means that I would have to acknowledge that the comics do and I'm not willing to make that concession! :-P
Boo! Telling me about awesome plot bunnies and how they're not going to happen.
Well, that and I have a fair few other plot bunnies that are demanding attention, not even counting my SoG stuff (which I teased you enough about). Would you accept a post-Eyghon Ripper meeting a Season 6 Buffy instead?
After I get through SoG, I promise that will be next up.
Just remember, I'm not as good with the dark themes and the angst. I'm a fluff magnate. With two notable drabble exceptions, even my angstiest stuff winds up having a cream-puff center!
ETA: Although I do have I post-Season 5 fic where Buffy lives, but Dawn doesn't that may need to be finished first. I wanted it for SoG, but the one where a teenage Giles may or may not make an appearance demanded to be written first!
I think I might just be cruel, as I quite enjoy leaving characters with unhappy endings!
(BTW, chapter 1 of Sanctuary part III is up. I'm currently tidying up chapter 2 and hope to have that up tomorrow evening. Chapter 3 should be up in a couple of days, as I've still got a bit left to write)
