No, I'm not going to be an editor! but in this case I thought it was important to ask. I thought it was intimidate because that made actually, you know, sense, but on the other hand he was ALSO being "intimate" so while it didn't fit grammatically into the sentence I thought maybe I was missing some other word related to "intimate" that it was supposed to be.
