And yes, Matt was a little too perfect... but I got the feeling that it was because he had to be. He knew that all eyes were on him since he was a boy. His brother was a bit of a smuck. Matt was probably the one that the family (the neighboor... maybe even the community) pinned their hopes on. Some people rebel from that kind of pressure, but other's just rise to the occation.
Or he might NOT have been that perfect, just really good at hiding it. And that's the interpretation I took for this series.
