One of the best shows that was well planned, plotted and (generally) executed was Babylon 5. It was one of my favourite shows and if you haven't seen it, definitely worth checking out. The problem is that it was messed around by the network - now there's something unusual! - so although the showrunner did end up with his required five seasons, he had to write and shoot an overall finale which would have wrapped up the show at the end of S4. But seeing that was set 20 years in the future, it was sort of okay. But the show was reprieved and the fifth season commissioned, but because certain plot details etc. had had to be truncated, the first half of S5 does feel a bit "light". But it's still a show that's well worth watching despite that.

I haven't watched S2 of Heroes yet - I'm saving them up until I have time to watch them all in one go! Mind you, with the strike, I might wait a bit rather than be left hanging mid season!
