The Guilt List Meme: The Great List of Doom Edition

When you see this, post an excerpt from as many random works-in-progress stories as you like. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

Well, zinke  did it, so I guess that means I should too. Especially since I have a Great Big List of Doom that I'm trying to finish.  This is also something of a three month status report.  I'm not nearly as far along this list as I'd like to be.

So, for most I have a sentence or two, but with fics that are longer/closer to done, I've actually included full paragraphs. For those that are curious, the last time I did this meme, out of the 10 fic I gave snippets for, one I totally gave up on and four I actually finished and posted. The rest are on this list.

He wanted to take her to Hawaii, in honor of a long ago memory. But nostalgia wasn't worth loosing an entire day to travel time when they had precious little time as it was. Besides it's not like spending a week in Puerto Rico was a hardship.

They put far worse behind them. He tied her to a tree and whispered seductively in her ear back when she was his enemy. She threatened to end his life and meant it when he was supposed to be her friend. A somewhat drunken kiss was easy to dismiss.

"Oh, I don't know about that," Zuko said softly. "This is a really good list. Who's to say I won't fall in love with her?"

High School - halfway

Zuko went from preppy to punk overnight. Before, he looked a little like an Asian Draco Malfoy, complete with the sour look. He had kept his wonderful think black hair long, much to the envy of almost every girl in the school but he shaved it all off. His Brooks Brother clothes had been replaced with ripped jeans and graphic t-shirts. And he was sporting a wicked looking black eye. Courtesy of his father, if gossip was to be believed. But strangely enough he looked... happy.

The problem when you start dating someone that you've known for years is how to tell everyone without it being awkward or embarrassing. There's always the risk that you cross the Too Much Information Barrier and cause eternal trauma for all concerned.

Before he went into the drug store, Derek took a moment to compose himself. Just like in high school, this was going to be all about the right attitude. He learned that early. Casey never did. Or, at least, she could never pull it off for very long. She was too honest to live with that sort of self-deception, brief flirtations with cheerleading aside.

"I'm sorry. I thought you'd be back later... earlier... You know what I mean." She closed her eyes, as if she were gathering her thoughts. Derek knew that when she opened them she would have the right words to get them to turn this into something normal. All he had to do was wait. But screw normal, anyway. He was too tired to make the effort not to care.

She does knows when Derek is pushing her buttons, even if she normally doesn't figure it out until after the fact.  But maybe she totally mistook his intentions this time.  She's been wrong about him before. But still... why go through all the trouble of getting them both at the same university if he was just going to pull a disappearing act?

She once said that if she had his money, she would be on a beach somewhere. Well, she has his money now. Granted, he came with it, but that was the whole point as far as she's concerned.

It was like the life before Dani had been kidnapped was gone. As dead as Roman’s charred remains, may he rot in hell. Everything had changed. Clearly it had all changed. So why was everyone acting exactly the same?

Sports Night 

Awkward Research - started

This shouldn't be so awkward. He's done this before. He's worked on research project with Natalie and Jeremy before, both when they were together and when they were apart. But it's never been like this.

Bubble Bath - started

"Come on, Dana!  There had to be something that helped you get over Casey."
"I don't know what to tell you! I ate more chocolate.  I took long bubble baths. I don't know.  The point is that I finally realized that had been on a merry-go-round for years.  And it was time to get off."

No snippets for either one of these. When I first wrote the list, I was pretty certain I was never going to finish either one of these, but I'm waiting to see if the movie inspires me at all before I totally thow in the towel.

Ugly Betty fic - started

Sophia had expected Daniel to be out on the town with some supermodel before the month was out.  Planned on it.  But, instead he disappeared. And when he resurfaced, it was at a business dinner with Bett... his assistant.  Looking back, that might have been the first nail in the coffin.

An Unrequited Love (the Mickey/Martha fic) - started

"Yeah."
"Hello. Mickey? This Francine Jones, Martha's mother."
"Yes, of course. Is Martha alight? Did something happen?"
"No, no. She's fine. Or what passes for fine these days. But she's the reason I'm calling."
"What is it? What can I do?"

"It's barely been a year. I've never been married, but I lost enough family to know that it can take much longer than that."

Meeting in the Park  - Done!  I've been putting off posting because, I'm thinking of doing a series recap picspam first.

Miho wasn't sure exactly what drew her attention to the three of them. They made a beautiful picture walking there with the sun shinning on them through the new spring leaves, but they was nothing unusual about any of them. Nothing that would have caught her eye. Just young family enjoying the nice weather on a Sunday morning. Probably on their way home from church.

Yeah, it's still a ridiculous list, isn't in?  I think part of my problem is that, in addition to all the real life distractions, I've been working on at least six of these fic at a time.  Maybe if I just concentrate on one or two, I'll start completing more!
