I find that rare-pairs often have the best fic. What you lack in quantity is made up for in quality.
I think its a bit weird to pine after someone like that (who you didn't even date!) for almost 20 years - and hate their son because of it.
Yeah, I don't really find that romantic or even all the sympathetic. Just because you love someone, doesn't mean that they have to love you back. (And I say this as I'm finishing a ficlet about Buffy and Dawn talking about unrequited love.)
