So 2006 is almost over.  I’m actually sorry to see it go.  It was a pretty momentous year for me!  But rather than go off on some long rambly monologue about everything that would be far too personal to post and rather boring for everyone but me, I thought I would put together a “soundtrack” for 2006.  These are the songs that I listened to without end during 2006, the ones that will always remind me of a specific time this year and/or just fit my life… all too well.  I really didn’t put an explanation as to why each of these make the list, but I can.

This is somewhat in chronological order.  Songs I was listening to earlier in the year are at the top.  Songs I was listening to this month are at the end.  (Yes, “From Such Great Heights” is listed twice.  It’s the same song, but, since the two songs are by different artists, there’s a different vibe and therefore there are different reasons for them making this list.)

1. Across The Universe ~ The Beatles (The Beatles Anthology 2)
2. Better Days ~ Goo Good Dolls
3. Two Days In February ~ Goo Goo Dolls
4. Such Great Heights ~ Iron And Wine (Garden State soundtrack)
5. While My Guitar Gently Weeps ~ The Beatles (The Beatles Anthology 3)
6. Bang! Bang! ~ Dizzy Gillespie
7. Body & Soul ~ Billie Holiday
8. Cry Baby Cry ~ The Beatles (The Beatles Anthology 3)
9. One Of These Things First ~ Nick Drake (Garden State soundtrack)
10. Come And Get It ~ The Beatles (The Beatles Anthology 3)
11. Let Go ~  Frou Frou (Garden State soundtrack)
12. Walk Away ~ Kelly Clarkson
13. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da ~ The Beatles (The Beatles Anthology 3)
14. I Just Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get Over You ~ Colin Hay (Garden State soundtrack)
15. All Things Must Past ~ The Beatles (The Beatles Anthology 3)
16. Julia ~ The Beatles (The Beatles Anthology 3)
17. Crazy ~ Gnarly Barkley
18. Put Your Records On ~ Corinne Bailey Ray
19. Linus & Lucy ~ Vince Guaraldi Trio
20. Trouble Sleeping ~ Corinne Bailey Ray
21. Fidelity ~ Regina Spektor
22. The District Sleeps Alone Tonight ~ Postal Service
23. Such Great Heights ~  Postal Service
24. Chasing Cars ~ Snow Patrol
25. I Hate Christmas ~ Oscar The Grouch
26. Next Year Baby ~  Jamie Cullum

Goodbye, 2006!  Thanks for being so good to me!

I could sit at home, put some candles on, open a bottle of red wine and listen to Billie Holiday all night. And it would always be perfect. Happy New Year, Quaggy to you and your whole NY tribe! Tracy xx

Ahhh, excellent choices. If one could wear out a CD, the Garden State Soundtrack would definitely be one that I would need to re-purchase over and over again. And I'm a firm believer in that you can never go wrong with some Beatles. Now you're making me want to scroll through the iPod and listen to the White Album.

Happy & healthy New Year to your and yours, Quags.
