Further Musings...

As promised, here is a continuation of Friday’s post. Let’s get the Avatar stuff out of the way first, shall we? I wrote down my reaction as I was watching the episoded. So, this is sort of delayed livebloging. Feel free to skip over if you never heard of the show…
Okay first…. GROSS with the Zuko and Mai kissing. Just… ew. There. I feel better having gotten that out of the way.
OHMIGOD!!! Zuko knows that Aang is still alive!! He has to know that Katara will use the spirit water to heal Aang. I mean the boy is dumb, but he’s not stupid. And he lied to Azula about it!!!! *dances* That’s practically proof in my book that he is still good!!
Faced, with an enemy ship on one side and a water serpent on one side…
Sokka: “The Universe once again mocks me.”
Toph: “You make it too easy!”
God, I love Toph!
Later, after the sea monster attacked the enemy ship.
Sokka: “Thank you, the Universe.”
Gotta love Sokka too!
Oh for crying out loud! For an all-powerful, highly spiritual leader, Aang is the biggest baby.
Aang: “I need my honor back.” God, could the parallels to Zuko be anymore blatant? It was no surprise when the cut back to Zuko in the very next frame.
Wow. For a crazy, psycho lunatic… Fire Lord Azulon looks rather… nice? I still wouldn’t trust him an inch.
Okay… Aang wind surfing was pretty crazy cool!
OHMIGOD!!! Princess Yue!! Nice too see you, Moon Girl, even if it’s only for a little while! If only Sokka was around!
I loved the whole concept of Aang letting his glider be destroyed…. I mean, that is the last link to his past and as much his symbol as… well, Appa. I love how this show will regularly defy not only children’s show conventions… but more TV general wisdom. That’s what makes this show so wonderful. I could think of a few serial adventure shows that could take notes from it!
You know, if I’m right about Zuko deliberately keeping Aang’s survival a secret, then for once AZULA is the one that played right into ZUKO’S …. Ooops, just saw the sneak peak for next time… and Zuko hiring an assassin to kill Aang. God, Zukko, you’ll never learn, will you? And when will I ever learn to stop letting you get my hopes up?
Fanfic
Maybe it’s because I’ve been busy with real life. Maybe it’s because school has been taking up all of my mental capacity. But whatever the reason, I’m having trouble finishing fanfic. I have four up in the air right now, but I just can’t seem to finish a thing. It’s not like I don’t know what to say. It’s like I’ve even forgotten how. I think my muse is asleep… or in a comma. And I still have a five page paper to finish by Wednesday and two books to read by next week. Sigh. Stupid real life.
Baseball
I went to a National game last Tuesday. I’m so not a sports fan (other than Sports Night, of course), but I’m really enjoy going to the game. This was the second time I’ve ever gone. And it’s the last time I will go at RFK stadium. I’m glad I got a chance to go before the Nats move to the new stadium.
What made this game interesting, from a West Wing fan perspective, was that the Nationals were playing the Mets. Now it is my own personal opinion that Josh would be delighted when baseball came back to DC and that he and Charlie would go to games together. So when the Nationals and Mets play against each other would he be torn? Or would he and Charlie trade insults? Dammit. There’s a fic idea in there somewhere, I know it!
Tim Gunn
Have you guys seen the new Tim Gunn/Martha Stewart commercial? The Usher one was rather cute. But Tim Gunn commercial was just divine. Why can’t the show be more like that?! He is just to adorable… which is strange to say about a grown man. Oh well, I’m all about the Tim love.

Date: 2007-09-26 11:58 am (UTC)If the Mets WEREN'T playing, would Josh even bother to go, do you think? Would he be a Nats fan as a backup? I highly doubt he would be like those jerky, drunken frat boys who sat near us. There wasn't one Nats or Mets hat among them. But a lot of Indians and Yankee caps! And they were loud, obnoxious and rude. We were glad they left early.

Date: 2007-09-26 03:10 pm (UTC)I like the Phillies, but when I go to non-Phillies Nats games I cheer for the Nats. Less enthusiastically, of course.
I miss WW!

Date: 2007-09-26 11:52 pm (UTC)I guess I just figured Josh, as much as his first loyalty would always be to the Mets, would be happy to have a local team... though I suppose it depends on how much of a local he considers himself. You can never tell with these politicos, can you? ;-)
In my brain, Charlie is a rabbid Nats fan. I haven't figured out Donna yet. Either she ignores it completely... or she's like me, and enjoying the game whenever Josh drags her along.

Date: 2007-09-25 03:03 pm (UTC)Must be an epidemic or something. I've been staring at the same two stories for over a month now, and haven't gotten anywhere. It's driving me crazy because the ideas are there, I just can't seem to find the right words for them.
Maybe we should start a support group or something... *g*

Date: 2007-09-25 07:20 pm (UTC)I'm so sorry your muse is on vacation without you! As for the baseball: I think Josh is a Mets fan come hell or high water, and he and Charlie would have quite the rivalry going on. Toby, of course, would be above it all.
Hope you fell better!

Date: 2007-09-26 04:54 am (UTC)In a word... No. As someone who is a lifelong fan of a particular team... I can say if I were to ever move I would remain for the rest of my life a fan of the Cubs. Its in my blood. I may enjoy going to games and cheering for the new team (so long as it weren't the St. Louis Cardinals or NY Mets) but I will remain a die-hard Cub fan.

Date: 2007-09-26 03:18 pm (UTC)But DC baseball is such a big deal for everyone here. People have been hoping a team (any team) would return to the city. It tough to describe. But it's less of local pride thing and almost a righting of a long ago wrong. A columnist here announced that he would always be a Mets fan first and formost, but he was planing on becoming a rabid Nats fan and I guess that made me wonder what it would be like for Josh. Your life long team will always win, but I wonder (having never been in that circumstance) if there would be the frusteration of having to pick a side, that one of the teams you like were going to lose.
(Sorry, I realized I hadn't finished a sentance in their and I couldn't go back to edit.)
