Good god, I forgot that I never posted these over here!! For those of you who missed it, last June I took part in a perfect (meaning 100 words, no more, no less) drabble contest over at [livejournal.com profile] katara_zuko. I entered three times as allowed by the rules and did really well. One of my drabbles tied for second and another won third place. So here are all three drabbles. I even named them this time.

Title: A Scene from Afterwards
Category: Drabble
Word Count: 100
Notes: The title is closer to a description. This is actually an except from a much longer fic that I'm still eternally working on. It didn't win anything, but I'm still fond of it.

Without thinking, you reach out a hand to touch where her necklace used to be. Her sudden stillness is the only indication that you have crossed an invisible line between the natural physical closeness that you all have with one another into something far more… intimate. You quickly draw your hand away.

“Is it strange not having your necklace?” you ask, trying to cover your embarrassment.

“A little. But this isn’t the first time I’ve been without it,” she sighs and your face flames as you remember your role in that. She laughs at your discomfort. “Oh, yeah. Then too.”

Title: Needs
Category: Drabble
Word Count: 100
Notes: The "she" is Zuko's mom, for those of you who might not know.

The message was simple: “I know where she is. Please come.”

For an endless moment, you’re frozen in empathy.

“He doesn’t know if she’s alive,” you hear yourself tell Sokka as he tugs the letter from your unresisting fingers.

“He doesn’t say that. How do you know?”

You shake your head. You can’t really explain it. You just do.

“If you hurry, you can leave with the airship,” Sokka suggests, instantly understanding that you can’t get there fast enough.

He needs you there like he needs the sun’s heat and, truthfully, you need to be with him just as desperately.

Title: Vulnerable
Category: Drabble
Word Count: 100
Notes: This gets to the heart of why I ship this pairing. I really like this one, but sometimes I feel it might have worked better as a longer piece.

He was the one she didn’t have to worry about hurting.

They were evenly matched in wits and skills. So in a fight, she’d really let herself go (whether with words or bending) knowing she wouldn’t leave lasting damage.

He was so strong, he didn’t need her mothering. So she allowed herself to lean on him when her burdens grew too great.

But then she discovered that his heart was hers for the taking—giving her the power to destroy him. So she did the only thing she could to prevent that…

She trusted him with her heart in return.
