As you all probably know by now, I like writing 100 word drabbles. So when
katara_zuko held another drabble competition, I threw my hat in the ring. There are some pretty excellent submissions, so I don't know how well I'll do. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Title: The Winter of His Discontent
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Prompts: Winter (prompt must be included in the drabble)
Notes: I have a feeling that this drabble is set in the same universe as this one.
Winters are warm and mild in the Fire Nation. His favorite time of year. Or it should be.
He doesn't know why he feels so strange. (Except he does.) He's uneasy and can't shake the feeling that something's missing. (Because she is.)
By day, he's the same Fire Lord who led his country into five years of peace and prosperity. No one would guess that anything's wrong.
At night, he rereads her letters (apparently the only contact she'll allow in this strange courtship) until he can no longer force his eyes to stay open.
He dreams of ice and snow.

Otherwise, very nice. I like the pacing. And the last line is wonderful - very musical, adds just the right touch.

Thank you! Misspellings aside, I've very proud how this turned out.

Date: 2010-01-15 03:34 pm (UTC)I missed all of the preliminary hype about the movie Avatar, so when I did finally hear about it, it wasn't until only a couple days before I went to see it that I realized that it wasn't about the anime. :-B You have taught me all too well.
