Another Great List of Doom Meme

There's a meme that's been popping up all over my f-list that I normally would try except... Well, see for yourself:

Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Ask about one and I'll tell you something about it.

A list of all the files in my WIP folder is basically what the Great List of Doom is, file names and all. Seriously, I'm really boring when it comes to naming my files. It's normally the title and if I don't have one yet, then it's one-word description. However, I can do the second half. So ask me about anything on my list and I'll give you quick, non-spoilery summery. (I'm not going to post a snippet, since I've already done that.) Ask about as many as you like. With any luck, talking about the fic will get me to actually finish it!

And your titles are too intriguing and original -- weren't you complaining that you thought they were boring or something in a different post? I mean ... "Atom Bomb" ????? and even "Tragic" !!!!! I MUST KNOW WHAT THOSE ARE ABOUT ASAP !!!!!!!!

Aww, thanks! But that only means I'm saved because my fic titles are interesting. :-)

So for the two you mentioned by name...

Atom Bomb (or Atomic Bomb, I haven't decided yet which one I like better) should have been done ages ago, but it's been giving me grief, not because I have writer's block, but because it's the fic that Will. Not. End. Seriously, I'm already on page 10 and most of my fics are half that length! The good news is that it's the LWD fic I'm actively working on. I'm not going to get into it too deeply (mostly because I'm hoping to finish it soon), but the basic concept is that Derek and Casey get together after college with very little drama, but have loads of problems trying to get their family to grasp the fact that they are a couple.

And Tragic (which is technically not the title, just the file name) is another fandom-inspired fic. Just like For Casey came out of reading too many Derek-buys-a-pregnancy-test fics, this came about because it seems like everyone was writing a Derek dies or Casey dies fic (Some like You-Call-The-Winter's were utterly brilliant. Others not so much.) Not my usual sort of fic, but (okay... *SLIGHT SPOILER HERE* YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!) it frustrates me that when the survivor realizes just how much the other means to him/her, there is nothing they can do about it. Zombies aside (which would be a very different type of fic) you can't come back from the dead. So the only way the other will ever know how the survivor feels is if the author goes with "reunited in the afterlife", the Dallas-style "It's all a dream!" or something like the The Legacy tried to do. I'm going to try (d) none of the above and hope it actually works. *END SPOILER*

The other thing I can tell you about that fic is that it's from Lizzie's POV. I tend to write with certain scenes in my head and everyone was accounted for except Liz... and that's when I realized that she was the one who was watching her family (and specifically Derek) try not to fall apart.

Those both sound great and I can't wait to read them. I'm so glad that you are still writing them -- my (new!) WIP file is just shy of being a graveyard.

I've gone for months and months without writing before. One of the main reasons that I created the Great List of Doom was so I would motivate myself to keep writing. And to keep track of my WIP. (I just realized I forgot to add The Derek Playlist!)

Yeah, The Legacy. Total trainwreak and then she doesn't even get them together in the end so that everyone will read her sequel. Ugh.

What kills me is that apparently NO-ONE except Casey (and Marti, a bit) seems to be grieving for Derek! And Casey, Derek and Marti never even STRUGGLE with whether they should tell the family!

Well, you know, the rest of the family are just cyphers that need to be added because they are canon... and to add that angsty forbidden love angle. Huh, you know we've been slagging her stuff in an open thread. Not that I really care, since it would be criticisms I would offer to her face if I thought she's actually listen without getting offended.

But you think that everyone else would have more of a reaction... or actively try to help Casey. And will someone please tell me why, Casey, the Queen of Therapy, isn't talking to a counselor? Don't you think, at the very least, PAUL would have check in with his favorite basket-Case after he heard about the shooting?

Thank you. I'm trying to finish Atom Bomb. I really am. But it doesn't want me to stop. The beginning keeps growing! And you'll have to wait a while for the Tragic one. (I'm thinking "A Family Tragedy" as a title.) I'd like to finish something Avatar-related or in a completely different fandom.

Speaking of which... I'm so glad you asked about Sports Night! As you might have guessed, they are all post-series Dan/Natalie.

Awkward Research is actually from a prompt you gave me. This is the one that will almost definitely be finished first.
I really like the concept of Dan, Natalie & Jeremy all in the room together researching something. Jeremy is acting all weird because he realized something might be happening between Natalie and Dan. That throws Natalie off because she feels guilty and indignant at the same time. And Dan who hasn't had his "Luke can see her face" moment yet, is frustrated that they can't just work like normal. It's actually told from Dana's POV, because I needed an independent observer who could objectively see what was going on.

Bubble Bath (which I posted a snippet of last time) is an old, old idea that I had for the Bubbleficathon (back when that still alive.) Sadly, no one was interested in Dan/Natalie. The concept is that Dana makes a stray comment about how taking long bubble baths helped her get over Casey. Dan & Natalie takes her literally and both try it at home. And then Dan calls Natalie when it doesn't seem to be working. It's supposed to be sweet and awkward, not smutty. So, no phone sex.

And Rumors is basically Casey freaking out when he overhears a couple of coworkers gossiping and jumps to the conclusion that Dan and Dana are dating. Natalie basically has to smack some sense into him. (I'm still annoyed with Casey for the whole Pixley thing, so it's not Casey/Dana, at all and gives me a chance to rant at him via Natalie.)

I am really annoyed with that too. They didn't even have a chance to become a couple, before the show totally messed it up. Such great chemistry, squandered. The rant-at-Casey-via-Natalie thing sounds therapeutic though... :)

Exactly. I suppose I wouldn't mind so much if Casey had his own "Giants win the pendant" moment, but no one on camera every told him what a smuck he was and how he blew his own chance.
