West Wing Drabbles for tww100

The challenge for tww100 was "Rewind" which meant you could go back and write using any prompts.  This was actually an idea I had when writing another fic.

Title: Stay

Challenge # 141:  Red
Word Count: 100 

“I need someone who knows difference between when I’m being an ass and when I’m drowning.  I need someone who knows to carry gum when things get tough.  I need someone who won’t back down and kiss my ass every time I bark.”

“You need Donna.”

“Eternally.  But I need her more as my wife than I ever did as my assistant.  And I desperately need an assistant.    There’s no one else who can do what you do.  Stay?”

Words couldn’t make it past the lump in her throat, but her red hair swung from the force of her nodding.

I thought it would be obvious that it was Maragret being ask to stay on when Josh became COS. But I suppose Ginger works if this were set in a AU where Josh and Donna got together while she was still needed an assistant. Though I'm not sure what Toby would think about Ginger being stolen away to work for Josh!

Wow, this is wonderful! You are great at painting a picture and telling a story in such a small amount of time! I picture it as Margaret, but I like that you didn't tell us exactly whom. I like to think Margaret just never leaves the West Wing ever.

Thanks! I'm really hooked on writing drabbles. I just can't seem to help myself!

Actually, I thought it was obvious that I was talking about Maragret. So I liked the idea of identifing her by just her hair color. I totally forgot about Ginger!

Just snooping around seeing what I've missed. I love this! The line "difference between when I'm being an ass and when I'm drowning" really got to me. I think it can be really useful for real life too.

i love all these bits of fic about Margaret staying on. all the reasons for it: because of Josh and Leo, because she really does love them all - they seem to be better than the "because she is the special assistant to the Chief of Staff", even as that role rotated through the original crew. and i kinda love Margaret.

i did enjoy one fic i read where Carol ended up as his assistant - but Margaret is...she's the new Mrs. Landingham - in that way that she's the one that just belongs there.

I have trouble imagining an assistant for Josh that ISN'T Margaret. I think after everything, they both sort of need each other.
